Alexanders Coffee Shop, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire

Following Irish footsteps…
…in Haverfordwest

As a non smoker, opening a no-smoking café in Haverfordwest wasn’t a problem for owner Jason Davies. Smoke-free since the day it opened three years ago, the Alexanders Coffee Shop prides itself on providing a clean fresh environment where customers can eat, drink, and pass the time in relaxing surroundings without the worry of breathing in second-hand smoke.

Only a short boat ride from the shores of Ireland, where smoking was stubbed out in 2004, Haverfordwest is the Pembrokeshire county town and centre of the county’s commercial, social and cultural life.

Jason said, “When Ireland was gearing up to go smoke free, I always knew Wales would do the same one day soon. I felt we should be a smoke -free café from the start. My wife and I are both non-smokers so it wasn’t even an issue for us. I think it’s a much healthier work environment when smoking isn’t allowed. Some of my staff are smokers, but being smoke free isn’t an issue for them either. It’s been good for our business; we’re a busy coffee shop and I’m happy that there are plenty of customers who appreciate our smoke-free policy.”
