Kilverts Hotel Hay-on-Wye, Powys
Closing the book on smoking
Nestling in the centre of Hay-on-Wye, the 'Book Capital' of Britain, Kilverts Hotel is surrounded by glorious countryside and with numerous book, antique and craft shops in the town, as well as many outdoor activities on offer, this hotel certainly gives everyone a warm welcome. And it’s a welcome that is also smoke-free.
New owners Bob and Sheila Davies and daughter Victoria Davies, who took over the business in November 2006, were adamant they wanted the hotel to continue to be a smoke-free establishment.
Bob Davies said, “The hotel introduced a smoke-free policy in March 2006 and it has worked out very well. We have a no smoking board outside the hotel and people tell us they’ve come in because we are a no smoking venue. There is an outside seating area with a covered patio and heaters if smokers do have an urge for a cigarette. Feedback has been very positive.
“What we’ve also noticed is that people eating in the restaurant are staying longer and ordering dessert or a coffee because they’re not in a smoky atmosphere. It’s a happier environment for everyone concerned, staff and customers alike!”
