Huw and Jackie Roberts of Min Hafan Estates opened up Gwyn Hafan Serviced Apartments in August 2006, and going smoke free was one of the easier decisions to make. The self-catering apartments were designed to offer a holiday alternative to hotels in the heart of mid-Wales Seafront.

The decision to go smoke-free was purely in the interests of keeping the apartments fresh and clean. Huw admits that policing the smoking ban is almost impossible and that they have to rely on people’s good will. However, so far housekeeping staff are pleased to report that customers have decided to abide by the rules.

The Roberts’ feel customers’ expectations are always rising when it comes to accommodation and the last thing they want is all their work cancelled out by customers’ habits.

Huw said, “The bottom line is we want people to come and stay and have the best experience possible. To be greeted by the smell of smoke in the rooms is instantly off-putting”.
