Aberdovey Golf Club, Aberdovey, Gwynedd
Smoke-free…
…down to a tee
Over the years Aberdovey Golf Club's 18 holes, which are steeped in over 100 years of golfing history, have hosted many championships including more recently the British Ladies' Home Internationals. The course is also the regular home of the Welsh Seniors' Championship.
The Club gives a warm welcome to visitors and members alike, both on the course and in the clubhouse, which has been smoke-free for over 12 months. The new Clubhouse was opened in 1998 following a fire which destroyed the historic old building in 1995. So now guests can relax in a no-smoking environment after enjoying a round of golf on the green.
Going smoke-free was relatively easy at Aberdovey as Ladies Secretary at the Club, Falmai McGowen explains: “The members voted on the clubhouse becoming a smoke-free area – with a majority vote in favour. Those who wish to smoke can go outside and it’s just a cleaner environment overall – our clothes don’t smell at the end of the day and most importantly, staff do not have to put up with breathing in second-hand smoke while they work."
