Central Fish Bar Pentrebach, Merthyr Tydfil

Chip in...
...Smoke out

Adrian at Central Fish BarAdrian Griffiths followed in the frying footsteps of his father when he took over the reins at this popular Pentrebach fish and chips shop. His father had been in charge of the fryers for a quarter of a century before Adrian took over 13 years ago.

The shop is as popular today as it has ever been and the construction of a brand new café – The Taffeteria - alongside the chip shop is proof the ban on smoking has certainly not affected his business. Open six-days a week come rain or shine and situated directly opposite the Working Men’s Club means there is no shortage of hungry customers.

One thing is certain; smoking does not come with chips in this establishment

Adrian Griffiths said, “We’ve always had no smoking signs up in the shop and everyone seems to respect our policy. We’ve never had any problems and when the café is up and running it will also be completely smoke-free. I have three people working for me and I don’t want them or myself to breathe in second-hand smoke and personally I don’t think it’s quite right for smoking to be allowed when food is being prepared and eaten.”
