Broomfield & Alexander Ltd, Wales’ largest independent firm of Chartered Accountants, took the step to stub out smoking at all four of their premises over two years ago. The clean working environment is very much appreciated by staff and clients alike, and the firm has witnessed no adverse effects since introducing the ban. Their advice to any business is to suggest that healthier staff with less absenteeism makes good long-term financial sense.
The firm recognises that staff and their wellbeing are key to their success. Not only can staff enjoy a smoke-free environment, but they can also make use of the relaxation room - complete with playstations to work off that executive stress!
Marketing Manager Claire Griffiths explains: “We take a very holistic approach towards the health of our staff. As part of our comprehensive health care package we introduced the smoking ban on the premises. The fact of the matter is we don’t have a product to sell; our people’s skills are our product, so keeping them as healthy as possible is in everyone’s best interest. And if they cannot do without their nicotine fix, umbrellas are provided should they choose to brave the elements!”
