Dan-y-Coed House Activity Centre, West Cross, Swansea
All puffed out at Dan y Coed
…but not due to smoking
Dan-y-Coed House Activity Centre is one of three residential activity centres in Swansea Bay and the Gower Peninsular run by the City and County of Swansea. The grand Victorian house, which lies on the outskirts of Mumbles village, has been adapted and furnished to provide comfortable fully catered accommodation for children, school pupils and youth groups, and the centre has now been smoke free for three years. There’s certainly no danger from smoking in this centre, indeed the only worry here is having too much fun given the exciting activities on offer.
Councillor Joan Peters, Cabinet Member for Community Regeneration said “Visiting groups to Dan-y-Coed House can choose between a relaxing weekend exploring Swansea and Gower, to an action packed adventure week. Staff at the activity centre, which caters for people under 25 years old, believed going smoke free was the best decision all round, thus avoiding giving young people any temptation to try and have a sneaky fag whilst away from home.
Tanya Hewson, the Centre’s On-site Hospitality Manager, said, “We can’t ignore the fact smokers do come to the centre, but as we do have a smoke free policy guests have to respect the decision and so far, we’ve managed to enforce it well. There’s so much to do here if you’re staying at Dan-y-Coed…but smoking is one activity we don’t offer.”
