Who's supporting the smoking ban?

The smoking ban in Wales is supported by many famous faces from the world of Sport, TV and Film, Politics and Entertainment. Please read their words of encouragement below.

Bryn Terfel - Opera Singer

Bryn Terfel

"Smoky atmospheres are a no-go area for any singer, as cigarette smoke not only has a direct effect on one's vocal abilities but its wider health implications are a real worry to everyone. I have been fortunate enough to have traveled the world with my career and witnessed different attitudes to smoking in many different countries and what Wales is doing in terms of the smoking ban in enclosed public places is a breath of fresh air. I look forward to a cleaner and healthier environment for me, my family and the whole nation."

Caryl Parry Jones - Singer and Composer

Caryl Parry Jones

“I fully support the smoking ban in enclosed public spaces in Wales and wished it had come into force many years ago when I was touring as I may not have had the health problems I suffered later in my career.”

Christian Malcolm - Athlete

Christian Malcolm

“As an athlete I know how vital it is to keep in peak condition. Following a healthy lifestyle is intrinsic to my success and my career. The harmful effects of smoking and second-hand smoke are well documented and there is certainly no place for either in the life of anybody who takes their health seriously. As a proud new father I also want to safeguard the health of my daughter. Keeping her away from smoky environments is essential. I just wouldn’t want her exposed to the damaging effects of cigarette smoke.”

Dame Shirley Bassey - Entertainer

Shirley Bassey

“As a singer I detest smoking in public places therefore I wholeheartedly agree to ban smoking in public places in Wales.”
